The ear cushions themselves are an around the ear design and remind me of some of the professional style headphones I have seen over the years.

I find them very comfortable. The top of the unit has a unique adjustment strap that makes this headphone a one-size-fits all design. I have a huge head and my roommate is much smaller, and they fit both of us equally well.
