Supports incremental layout implementations in specialized subclasses of FrameworkElement. ParentLayoutInvalidated UIElement is invoked when a child element has invalidated a property that is marked in metadata as affecting the parent's measure or arrange passes during layout.
Converts a Point in screen coordinates into a Point that represents the current coordinate system of the Visual. Converts a Point that represents the current coordinate system of the Visual into a Point in screen coordinates. Determines the next element that would receive focus relative to this element for a provided focus movement direction, but does not actually move the focus. Raises a specific routed event. The RoutedEvent to be raised is identified within the RoutedEventArgs instance that is provided as the RoutedEvent property of that event data.
Provides an accessor that simplifies access to the NameScope registration method. Removes the provided object from this element's logical tree. FrameworkElement updates the affected logical tree parent pointers to keep in sync with this deletion. Attaches a binding to this element, based on the provided source property name as a path qualification to the data source. I decided to give Microsoft a second chance and added the Calendar app to the Widgets. To my disappointment seriously, I should be used to this by now when dealing with half-baked Microsoft software , it showed me a strangely-worded error message that "Sorry, some events from this account can't be displayed". Clicking on the "Learn more" button directed me to a Microsoft FAQs page and neatly tucked away at the bottom, I found this gem:.
Sorry Microsoft, you can't bully me into creating an Outlook. All in all, the Calendar app's integration with Windows 11 is a massive disappointment. It grinds my gears to know that a company could be so dismissive of clear use-cases that it would trade functionality for apparent simplicity.
The icing on the cake is that it forces you to create an Outlook. If you just want rounded corners and don't really care about the Calendar app, you'll be right at home with the Windows 11 app. However, if you're an active user of the Calendar app and its integration with the Windows 10 Taskbar, either don't upgrade to Windows 11 until Microsoft fixes this blunder, or, look around for third-party workarounds to accomplish the same. But at this point, Windows 11 just seems like a half-baked experiment where Microsoft shipped the bare minimum and asked third-party developers to build functionality on top of it to fix its own blunders.
Take a look at the section here or select from the links below to continue exploring Windows 11 in our ongoing "Closer Look" series:. The Calendar app in Windows 11 Talking about the Calendar app in Windows 11, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there's no difference when compared to its Windows 10 counterpart, because there really isn't any major difference.
For example, navigating to July, you should see an event for the 4th of July. If you hover your mouse over the event, you can also see a tool tip appear. Notice that right clicking on a holiday event will do nothing because, by default, you can not edit holiday events since holiday events should not need editing anyway. Events in Calendar. NET are easy to create. All events are simply classes that implement the IEvent interface.
A HolidayEvent is a type of event that describes a holiday, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. All of the preloaded Federal Holidays that come with Calendar. NET are instances of this class. CustomEvent describes custom events that can be pretty much anything. Most of your events will be instances of this class. Of course you are also free to create your own kinds of event classes by simply implementing the IEvent interface.
Enabled - This property determines if the event is enabled. If set to false , then the event is disabled and it will not be rendered on the calendar unless the calendar is configured to show disabled events. EventColor - This property is a Color object that determines the background color used to render the event on the calendar. EventFont - This property is a Font object that determines the font used to render the event. EventLengthInHours - This is the length of the event, in hours.
If the event is two hours long, then you'd set this to 2. If the event was a half hour long, you'd set this to 0. If the event is an hour and 15 minutes long, you'd set this to 1.
This property is ignored if the IgnoreTimeComponent property is set to true. EventText - This is a description of the event. This is the text that will be displayed on the calendar. EventTextColor - This is a Color property that will determine the color to render the text in. IgnoreTimeComponent - This is a bool value that, if set to true , will ignore the time component of the Date property. This is useful for events that last all day and have no fixed time.
Rank - This property is an integer property that determines the order in which events that occur on the same day will be rendered in a month-to-month view. The smaller the number, the more precedence the event will have. Holiday events, by default, have a rank of 1, which means they will be rendered first on that day. Custom events have a rank of 2, which means they render after the holiday events. If two or more events have the same rank, then the order rendered is determined by the earliest event, in order to the latest.
By giving an event a rank of -1, you can force the event to render ahead of everything else. ReadOnlyEvent - If this is set to true , then the event can not be modified by the end user by right clicking on it. By default, this is set to false , unless its a HolidayEvent.
RecurringFrequency - This property determines how often the event should render. NET comes with several built in recurring frequencies, as well as the option to define your own. This property can be set to any value in the RecurringFrequencies enumeration. Valid values are:. This function will accept the event and a render date and should return a bool indicating if the event should be rendered on this day.
An example of this will be coming up soon. This property is ignored unless the RecurringFrequency property is set to Custom. ThisDayForwardOnly - This property, if set to true , will cause the event to render only if the date is later or equal to the Calendar date.
If set to false , then the event, if its recurring, will show up in past days on the calendar too. TooltipEnabled - If set to true , a tool tip will be rendered when the mouse is hovered over the event. Just to summarize the difference between a HolidayEvent and a CustomEvent , here are the default properties of each any or all of these properties can be overriden of course :.
Creating holiday events are very easy. Lets say we wanted to create a calendar event for Groundhog Day, which occurs every February 2nd.
